DAY 1: Marrakech – Ouarzazate – Dades Valley
At 8 A.M. we will pick you up from your Marrakech riad or hotel, and depart in our 4×4 overland vehicle to Dades valley. This road takes us through the Tizi- N-Tichka pass (elevation 2260m) in the High Atlas Mountains. From Marrakech to Ouarzazate, you will enjoy the scenic road,and landscapes,and the striking colors of the Berber villages along the way. In Ourzazate you will have free time to visit the historic “Taourirt Kasbah” and have a leisurely lunch. Afterwards, the tour continues further southeast , ending up in the lush Dades valley, via the fascinating palm oasis in Skoura and the famed “City of Roses,” Kelaa M’Gouna. In the late afternoon we’ll arrive at our lodgings in the in the Dades valley, where dinner and a pleasant overnight stay await us.
DAY 2: Dades – Todra Gorges – Merzouga (Erg Chebbi Dunes)
After breakfast, we leave from the hotel in Dades valley taking the road of 1000 kasbahs. This drive takes us around and through the picturesque Berber villages of the Dades valley. Approximately 45 km further south, we arrive in Tinghir, an important regional hub for trade and trasportion, and known for it’s palm groves and Jewish quarter. From here we continue onwards to reach the Todra Gorges (Todgha), where we have left free time to go on a trek along the canyons, some of which reach of about 300 meters (approx 1000 feet) high, a favorite place for rock climbers. Afterward this adventure, the tour takes us to the famous Erg Chebbi dunes in Merzouga. You will have lunch on the way, and then arrive at the local Auberge (small hotel) where we will leave our luggage in a secure area, drink tea, and meet our camel guides for the evening. The caravan departs in the late afternoon for an approx 1.5 hour trek into the desert, and as we continue deeper into the desert landscape, dunes rise up in front and around us to heights of 150 meters (450 feet). We’ll stop on our ride the sunset views from on top of our camels, and then arrive at the oasis where the camp is located. Here we will spend the night in the bivouac surrounded by dunes, either under nomadic tents or outside under the shooting stars. After a traditional dinner, around a campfire and peaceful atmosphere.
DAY 3: Merzouga – Tazarine – Agdez – Ouarzazate
In the early morning, your camel guide will wake you up in order to climb the dunes and magnificent sunrise over the dunes of Erg Chebbi. The camel trek winds its way back to the hotel at the edge of the dunes for breakfast and shower. Leaving Merzouga, we drive to Rissani, a small Saharan town in southeast of Morocco, here we can stop to visit a fossil workshop before we continue to the Agdez and Draa valley junction, where we head north back to Ouarzazate after crossing the small volcanic Atlas Mountains. Overnight in Ouarzazate at a traditional hotel with dinner.
DAY 4: Ouarzazate – Ait Ben Haddou – Telouet – Marrakech
After breakfast, we’ll visit to cinema sets & studios located in Ouarzazate, which is known as Hollywood of Africa, because of the many movies and television shows filmed against the desert backdrop. Afterwards we will visit the World Heritage Site of Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou , designated by UNESCO in 1987. Ait Ben Haddou has been used as a backdrop for more than 20 films including “Gladiator” “Indiana Jones” and “Lawrence of Arabia”. walk to explore the traditional Moroccan style of architecture in which the Kasbahs are built. We continue on our way to Marrakesh through the High Atlas Mountains and Tizi n’Tichka pass. Break for lunch in the middle of the Atlas Mountains. Once we’ve reached Marrakech, we’ll drop you off at your Marrakech Riad/Hotel.
