3 days tour from Marrakech to Merzouga

Day 1: Marrakech to Dades Valley via Ait Benhaddou and Ouarzazate

Depart early from Marrakech and head toward the High Atlas Mountains, crossing the Tizi n’Tichka Pass, one of the highest passes in Africa. As you ascend, enjoy spectacular views of mountain villages and valleys. Your first stop is the famous Ait Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site. This ancient ksar (fortified village) has been used as a backdrop for many Hollywood films, such as Gladiator and Lawrence of Arabia.

After exploring Ait Benhaddou, continue to Ouarzazate, often called the “Gateway to the Desert” and home to the famous Taourirt Kasbah. You’ll pass through the Valley of Roses and the Skoura Oasis before reaching the Dades Valley, known for its dramatic rock formations and kasbahs. Spend the night in a charming hotel or guesthouse.

Day 2: Dades Valley to Merzouga via Todra Gorge

After breakfast, continue your journey through the Dades Valley, making your way to the Todra Gorge, one of Morocco’s most spectacular canyons. The sheer cliffs reach up to 600 meters, and the gorge is a popular spot for hikers and rock climbers. Enjoy some time to explore the gorge and take in its natural beauty.

In the afternoon, head towards the Sahara Desert, passing through the towns of Erfoud and Rissani, famous for their fossils and date markets. Upon arrival in Merzouga, you’ll swap your vehicle for a camel trek and venture into the Erg Chebbi dunes. As the sun sets, the sand glows in shades of orange and red, creating a magical atmosphere. After the trek, arrive at your desert camp, where you’ll enjoy a traditional Berber dinner, music around the campfire, and a night under the stars.

Day 3: Merzouga to Marrakech via Draa Valley

Rise early to witness a spectacular sunrise over the dunes, an experience that will stay with you forever. After breakfast, ride your camel back to Merzouga and begin your journey back to Marrakech. Travel through the expansive Draa Valley, the largest palm grove in Morocco, with its picturesque villages and ancient kasbahs.

Pass through Ouarzazate once more and cross the High Atlas Mountains, descending back into the plains and arriving in Marrakech in the late afternoon. The tour concludes with a drop-off at your accommodation in Marrakech.
